Put The Church First, Not pt. 2

Here are some keys to managing home and church (work) well and making sure you keep family as a top priority:

1. Spend time getting your life organized around your priorities. You are deceiving yourself if you don’t have a plan in place to invest in your family and you think somehow you will accidentally fall into accomplishing what you say are your priorities. You have to plan and be purposeful about accomplishing your priorities.

2. If you’re not willing to say “no” most of the time, you will never accomplish your priorities. One of the hardest things for most people is saying no to all the good opportunities that come their way. Let’s practice saying no together. Can you all come over and eat dinner with us on Thursday? No, we already have plans. Can you go to the game with me tomorrow night? No, I already have plans. Will you go golfing with me tomorrow after work? No, I already have plans. I know that was hard for some of you, but you can do it! :)

3. You have to be wise with your free time. A lot of people complain that they don’t have enough family time and that work is eating up all of their time but in actuality they don’t manage their free time well. You can’t spend your free time watching 50 hours of TV a week, hanging out with friends every night of the week, golfing, shopping and the list goes on and on, and then say work is messing up your family time. If you don’t manage your free time well, work is probably not your problem. Your problem is you haven’t organized and planned your free time around what matters most, your family.
